Re: JGB-Positively 4th Street |
Simply outstanding. Not many better renditions of that song, if any. I'll take '79 JGB over '79 GD almost any day.

Re: JGB-Positively 4th Street |
This is my favorite version, once again Jerry has a hard time with the lyrics, but more than makes up for it with an impassioned vocal and some ripping guitar playing and the much maligned Ozzie Ahlers takes a few smokin' solos.

I realized I don't have a digital copy of this show either,so I gave this Dylan compilation with one seeder a shot. Those are the only two sources for that show I could find.

Re: JGB-Positively 4th Street |
Finally managed to DL the original source you linked. I uploaded the FLAC to soundcloud, in case you can't DL it on etree. I'll be checking it out tonight when I can blast it on good speakers.

Re: JGB-Positively 4th Street |
That is an absolutely incredible rendition. Jerry's playing just soars. His two solos were flawless, and Ahlers really compliments those with some nice work of his own. I agree with LIA about that squeaky setting, and very glad it wasn't used here. Thanks for pointing this one out. 1980 JGB rarely disappoints.

Belatedly - this is a fine version, and I like Ahlers' sound & solo spots in it as well - he doesn't use that squawky setting I hate. I think Kahn was the weak link in that band - his playing is faux-funk & never interesting - but what can you do...

Re: JGB-Positively 4th Street |
I figured you would like it RD being that you know whats good.I agree with you LIA in that John Kahn is no doubt the weak link,a combination of being unimaginative, mistake prone and melodically challenged should have led to his dismissal.I am usually not a big keyboard fan and didn't care for some of the sounds Ozzie used, but he sure could play and on numerous occasions I saw him tear it up.
